Dealing with the RI-Malaysia border conflict which heats up lately some parties wanted the attitude and the statement by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in a speech at the Headquarters of the Indonesian National Army (TNI), in Jakarta, Wednesday (1 / 9) night, even harder and if necessary confrontation or war. Some elements of society in the country has also signed up to become a volunteer 'devour Malaysia ". But should we take the war path?
We rightly gives a high appreciation of the speech President Yudhoyono related assertion that emphasizes diplomacy and legal approach in the handling of border conflict between the two countries. It is not fair in case of friction or conflict, then necessarily be solved by violence.
In my opinion, the choice of approach to diplomacy (soft power) is the most rational approach for us to do, not using much less violent ways to deploy military power (hard power). In our country's defense strategy, among others, have also asserted that in order to resolve any dispute or conflict with other countries, Indonesia will always give priority to diplomatic efforts. Despite efforts by the Government through diplomatic channels and the acceleration of the legal approach, but military force remained necessary, because a strong military force will greatly help (making back-ups) by diplomatic efforts.
View of the Indonesian people about the war are very clear, that we love peace but rather the love of independence and sovereignty. War by using military means is only done when there is no other way (the last option) to resolve conflicts between countries, with the aim of upholding the sovereignty and maintaining territorial integrity from threats.
In any country, choosing the option of war is not easy. The decision to choose the path of war-related conflict issues of State sovereignty and territorial integrity can not be done spontaneously and emotionally. Keep a careful calculation and mature. Many things must be considered to decide the option of war ranging from the budget and logistical support for the war, the strength of the defense held, the balance of forces of war and combat power, weapons systems, the risk that we must face both from the humanitarian aspect, the moral aspect and the aspect of inter-State relations in world and many more. The point of war more negative / loss of the positive, which only brought misery to its citizens. Especially in this global era, the problem of war is not only the affairs of two countries which fought, but the business world and the international community
But most important, whatever the approach taken, the Indonesian nation must continue to build strength and defense maintains that military preparedness has to be respected penangkalan effect feared by friend and foe.
