VIVAnews - Some foreign airlines have delayed flights between Singapore and Jakarta. The reason is because it avoids the risks posed by volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Merapi.
Mount Merapi, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, erupted since 26 October, and has killed up to 130 people.
Mountain, located in Central Java was also active in producing thick clouds of dust and gas super hot on its largest eruption in this century. For that, a number of airline representatives said the dust was dangerous and could damage the aircraft flight.
As quoted from RadioNZ, November 7, 2010, a number of airlines that cancel flights include Singapore Airlines, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Lufthansa, Cathay Pacific, Turkish Airlines, AirAsia and Tiger.
Merapi eruption also forced the closure of Adisucipto international airport in Yogyakarta. The flight diverted to airport Adisoemarmo, Solo.
Other airlines, like Air New Zealand, has no direct flights to Indonesia, and their flight routes to other Asian region is not disrupted.
Several flights were still monitoring the situation. Australian airline, Qantas, which has a flight to Jakarta said today continue to see the related situation of flights that will depart this Sunday.
Saturday's schedule recorded 46 flights were canceled. These conditions make overseas flights from Soekarno Hatta airport mess. Many passengers were forced to reschedule his departure. Meanwhile, those who want to travel with tickets had to bite the fingers because of the promotion period of validity of tickets can not be renewed and replaced, aka charred. (Umi)
